The blog has been a little quiet of late... Blame New York.
It’s an interesting
experience to wander the world then come home. No more roaming spending days
free and lost in a foreign part of the world, it’s back to the real-world. The
mindset changes, priorities are shuffled, sometimes even important
life-changing decisions are made. If you’ve ever had a stint in another country
for a substantial period of time, you’ve probably come home to what is widely
nicknamed ‘Post Holiday Blues.’ While it may not actually be a recognized
syndrome, (although I vote it is), you probably either are familiar with the
feeling or have bore witness to colleagues suffering... Head buried in hands,
the thought no more trips for another 30-something weeks, would rather die than be at
work etc etc, you know the drill. It’s a cycle. Go through the motions until
the next holiday, trudging about complaining about how you wish things were
different. We’ve been there.
My business was one of those life-changing decisions, born after just
another standard European Escapade... A Summer spent abroad in the sun, sipping
cocktails in Greece, sailing the Mediterranean in Italy, shopping in France...
(ok sorry, we’ll stop now!), and in the back of my mind, that niggling,
slightly terrifying thought that this state of bliss was merely a fleeting
moment before heading back to Reality. Oh yes, Reality... Heart sinks. How
much we just could not wait to fly all that way home and back to that job that
was Uninspiring, Unchallenging, Unexciting, Uninteresting and every other
Unsomething word that has ever possibly been in existence. Coming home and
realizing we had essentially escaped our Uneverything reality to love lifes every moment and then return to exactly the same thing was not a good feeling
and definitely not how we wanted to spend the rest of our days.
Coming home from a big
trip this time was different. Allbeit New York was absolutely fabulous and one of our favourite places
in the world, it was the first big trip since creating the business, and what
is now our everyday state of bliss. We have our customers to thank, making you
happy, is the reason we love what we do.
So we’ve decided to put
together a bit of a photo blog of our trip for you, along with some picks of
ours if you’re ever planning to visit, or maybe if you’ve even been 10 times
you might find something to add to your next rendezvous in The Big Apple, an
overwhelmingly big, beautiful city filled with an energy and personality like
no other. Nearly every place is top notch, first-rate, world class etc etc you
get the point. If you have any places you want to rave about then please leave
a comment and let us know so we can visit next time!
So that brings me to
the end of the post. We hope you enjoy the photos and that if you find yourself
coming home from The Greatest Trip Ever suffering from those post holiday
blues, it’s actually a blessing in disguise and a chance to get excited. Think
about what you can change or accomplish with your new full tank of energy AKA
‘Zest for Life’, after all it’s all too short to spend hanging out and waiting
for the next holiday!
